why was there spies

I think there was spies because they was willing to risk their lives to fight what they believe in. The thought that they was risking their lives like getting killed or any thing like that , in my opinion they should be honored because they fought for equal rights which is what we have now equal rights.

George Curtis lived in New York at the start of the civil war.He joined a New York Infantry Regiment.He became a Pinkerton agent and a very good spy.He was chosen in 1862 to obtain info in Richmond.
